Loss of life and despair as Covid migrants flee cities

India’s strict lockdown to forestall the unfold of coronavirus supposed that most factories and agencies shut down, rendering thousands and thousands jobless.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to agencies to hold paying their workers, including every day-wage labourers.

But that didn’t happen, and most of the workers delight in been left with runt money and food.

Without a prospect of profits, they took long journeys to return to their villages. Some managed to collect transport, but these that couldn’t, walked thousands of miles.

And a few of them by no formula made it home as they died due to exhaustion or in accidents.
